It’s very frustrating when you plug your phone in and it just refuses to charge. It’s even more annoying when its battery is nearly dead and you have to leave for work in a few hours.
Fortunately, you can find out what the problem is yourself. Here are a few simple ways to find out what’s wrong with your phone.
Check for a Software Malfunction:
You don’t need to panic whenever your phone stops charging. It might be that your iPhone software failed to identify that the charger is connected to the phone.
iPhone's software is programmed to run a few checks before it allows the phone to charge. For example, it has to check if the battery is full or not. So, if the software fails to perform as it should, it will automatically create problems for the phone to charge.
What should you do? The best way to deal with a software glitch is to restart or replace phone battery. Go for the hard reset. For that, press down the home button and power button for about 30 seconds.
Check the Lightning Cable and Charger:
If your phone still doesn’t charge then perhaps the cable or the charger is damaged. In any of these cases, you need to replace the faulty accessory. To check this, try charging the iPhone through your laptop. If it charges, then your wall charger is damaged.
If your iPhone still doesn’t charge, then it’s time to check your cable. Ask a friend for his/her cable and try charging your phone through it. If it starts charging, then you know where the fault lies.
A cable fault can also be detected through visual inspection. Look for the signs of wear and tear around its edges. iPhone cables are prone to get damaged near these areas.
Check If the Display is Working:
Sometimes when you think your phone has stopped charging, it’s because of the display error. Your screen has stopped working. To be sure of this, restart your iPhone and check for an error message.
Now, this is a bit more severe problem. You will need to send your iPhone for repair, or there is a risk of losing your information. So, if this is the case then back up your data immediately before getting your iPhone fixed.
Check If the Damage is Physical:
Check if there is some visible physical damage. Now, this is easy to track. Did you accidentally spill some liquid over it? Did it fall hard somewhere?
Usually, your phone will work fine even if it’s screen has a crack. But spilling water over it or dropping it in water and not letting it dry completely is a major problem. Severe liquid contact damages the battery for good.
In these circumstances, try getting your iPhone replaced under warranty or send it for repair.
