Broken Home Button Savior

A couple of years back when the home button on my iPhone broke, I ended up enabling the button on screen instead. It wasn't the optimal way to use the telephone, but I was traveling a lot in the time and did not really have time to visit the Apple Store to get it fixed. Inside iOS Apple has a characteristic named AssistiveTouch that places your Home button on your phone's display. It is meant for those who've trouble pressing buttons, but in addition, it is useful whenever you manage to break these buttons. When it is enabled, you will have a home button on the side of your phone's display.

Whenever you press on it, you get access to a number of the iPhone's attributes. What you see there can be customized based on your needs, but you may add things such as Siri and quantity controls or a shortcut to take a screenshot. You may access it by going to the Settings menu on your phone followed by General and after that Availability followed by Assistive Touch. From there you will want to toggle the feature on. You customize what is there by choosing Customize Top Level Menu, from the menu. ZDNet lately published a post at which it suggested carrying AssistiveTouch a step further and using it as a shortcut menu for a number of your iPhone's buried attributes.

At that time that I read it, I thought the idea was a little absurd, but there are scenarios where it can make sense. This weekend I was chatting with a buddy who has her phone in an off brand Otterbox of sorts. As a breaker of phone screens, she likes keeping it on, but the big power buttons on the side make accessing things such as the volume button a little difficult. She mentioned just how much of a pain it was to use the buttons on her phone with the case on, and I pointed out AssistiveTouch, which immediately became a game changer for her. It isn't a use case I'd thought of before, but it is an excellent one. AssistiveTouch is definitely not a characteristic everybody needs, but if you've super hardy case, then it may be a strong feature to have In your back pocket.
