What Is Not Covered By Your iPhone Warranty?

When it comes to buying a new phone, it is always vital to have an idea of the warranty cover provided by the manufacturer. Phone manufacturers are supposed to provide high quality products that can match buyer expectations, warranties are supposed to provide free repairs or even replacements in case the phone does not match the quality intimated by the manufacturer. This means that most warranties only cover any damage or defects sustained on the device as a direct result of manufacturer defects or those sustained during manufacturing.

As the most popular smartphone brand in the market currently, iPhone is deemed as the option offering most users the expected value. Let’s take a brief moment and evaluate the value offered by their warranty by looking at the things not covered by the warranty provided.

First and foremost, it is important to state that Apple offers a one year warranty on all iPhones. This year commences straight after the phone is registered as sold and the buyer registered as the warranty owner. During that year Apple will repair free of charge all defects covered under the limited warranty. So the question becomes what is not covered by the Apple warranty?

  • The Apple warranty does not cover any damage or defects sustained on the device as a result of an accident during use. This means that if you were to accidentally drop your phone and resultantly damage it, the damage is not covered under Apple warranty. You need to contact iPhone repair specialists.
  • The Limited warranty on your iPhone also does not cover any damage sustained by any unauthorized modifications. Jail breaking your iPhone springs to mind at this point. Any damage sustained during such modifications is not covered.
  • Disassembling your iPhone device is also not covered under the limited warranty provided by Apple. This is rather obvious.
  • As most people have found out, water damage is also not covered under Apple’s warranty on the iPhone. This means that if you were to spill any drink on the iPhone or totally submerge it under water, the damage suffered is yours and yours alone to deal with. Apple usually uses the water damage indicators to know whether damage is induced by water. This is because sometimes water damage can take up to months to affect your phone.

Where owners find that the damage on their phone is not covered under the manufacturer’s warranty, they can still get it fixed at a price under the Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service.
